Manxi is a PhD student in Food and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Reading, she is studying the food waste valorisation using enzymatic pathways and prebiotic potential evaluation of biomass-derived cellobiose. As an international student, it is hard to adapt to a new education system. She will be focusing on how to transfer from undergraduate to master with critical thinking skills.

Ana is a PhD student in Food and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Reading, United Kingdom. She is investigating natural food preservatives for bakery products as alternatives to the currently used chemical preservatives. She is looking into lipopeptide biosurfactants as potential natural preservatives, which have antifungal activity against bread spoilage fungi. Her research focuses in screening lipopeptides for antifungal activity in vitro, in bread and the interactions of the antifungal compounds with bread ingredients and matrix. Her talk will focus on the results achieved so far and future plans of the project.

Hannah is a PhD student in Nutritional Microbiology at the University of Reading, United Kingdom. She joinedthe Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES)and came to the National Finals early this year. YES is a global competition developed to raise awareness among postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers and technicians on how research can be commercialised. Itbrings teams together to develop a business plan for a start-up company based on a hypothetical but plausible idea that attempts to deploy novel science and engineering to address societal challenges.Hannah will share her experience came to the national final of YES program, as well as herPhDproject.
